Sophia rocks a one-piece....James does too!

Emily wore these keepers to the pool.....can you guess who they really belong to?
It has been HOT this summer. Freakin' HOT.  So, having access to a pool in the summer heat is ideal.

Sophia has gone swimming (using the term loosely) three or four times now.....the most recent time I think she has enjoyed the most.  We actually got some smiles out of her in the water.

We tried to teach her the front crawl, but she just wasn't picking up on it.  Weird.

When we tried to take the diet coke away (it's empty) she started to get mad

One note at a time

I recently got a job teaching piano.  It seemed to be the best fit for me to continue to stay at home with Sophia during the days.  Teaching has turned out to be very exhausting.  A four hour shift feels more like ten.  It could be the fact that I teach mostly all 5 and 6 year olds.  That can be a challenge in itself.
I have grown quite fond of all of my students that I teach.  If anything, they provide a lot of entertainment, I never know what they will say next.

Quotes while teaching piano:

Jana: "Good Job!"
Student:  "Yeah, you're welcome"  (reminds me of a mini-james)

Jana: "Oh, nice picture, is it a horse?"
Student:  (Looking at me like I'm an idiot) "No....it is a waterfall"

Jana: "I can't hear you saying the names of the notes"
Student: "I'm whispering them"
Jana:  "Well don't"
Student:  "well, I wanna be able to hear the SONG!!"

Student: "I'm leaving you in the dust" (while playing a warm-up with me, and then did an evil laugh)

Student: "I need to leave the room"
Jana:  "Why is that?"
Student:  "I need to yawn"  (They aren't allowed to yawn in lessons, it is a rule...hey I didn't make the rules)

Student:  Plays a wrong note "Just kidding"
Jana:  "oh you were kidding on that one?"
Student:  "Yes, in my life I like to joke around"

(student hasn't even been in lessons for 2 minutes)
Student: "How many more minutes until I get to leave"

Student: (has a cold) "I can't go to my school carnival tonight because of my cold.  You know a cold is like a fire, if you blow on the fire it SPREADS all over the place, so like my cold, if I cough and don't cover my mouth it spreads and gets out of control" (then he starts hacking....trying to cover his mouth but not doing a very good job.)

Never a boring day with these kids.  Never.

Sophia Smiles

These last couple of weeks have been so wonderful.  Sophia is smiling at us.  It is the best thing in the world.  She just went in for her 2 month check-up.  Weighing in at 13 pounds 2 ounces and 23 1/2 inches long.....puts her in the 90th percentile for both height and weight.  Sophia also experienced her first set of shots at this check-up.  This was not so wonderful.  I ended up crying along right there with her.  It's hard to watch someone you love so much in pain.

She is absolutely enchanting.

Play date

Sophia had her first play date last week.  It was great fun....as much fun as two babies could have.  Our good friends just had their baby girl!  Francis Ann, and she is beautiful.  After Heather told me that Francis had arrived, I was ecstatic because the first thing I thought was Sophia and Francis will become great friends:)  This picture cracks me up every time I look at it.   Looking forward to many more play dates to come.

The Nursery is a Hoot

Literally too.  I am obsessed with owls.  Lucky for me, so is the rest of the world.  I have had no trouble whatsoever finding anything to do with owls.

James let me decorate the nursery any way that I wanted to, so I had to choose my beloved owls.

I am still in the process getting the nursery completed.  We still have to hang photos and get a bookshelf, etc.  But it has come along nicely I think.  I try to get Sophia excited about owls, but I don't really think she cares much at this point.  She will appreciate it once she gets a little older I'm sure.

For now, she is perfectly content sleeping right next to us in our room or should I say on mom or dad.

Works like a charm baby

Sophia is almost hitting her three week mark in a few days.  She is sweet as can be.  She really doesn't sleep much at all.....I guess I was thinking she would take a few naps during the day but she seems to fight the urge often.

My friend Sarah gave me a tip that she uses with her son, Tennyson.  She told me to wrap Sophia up tight and put her on the counter and run the water in the kitchen sink.  I hadn't tried this approach yet, but today I was all out of ideas to get her to calm down.

Sure enough, not even 5 minutes go by, and here is Sophia -

This may be a saving grace for James and I.....although I'm pretty sure our water bill is going to increase dramatically.
